Back to Backworth

The charter with Backworth 47 (AKA Moorbarrow) was run on Sunday with a smaller than hoped for turn out of photographers but the weather was excellent and the loco looked and sounded great. It is important to bear in mind though that 47 is only just out of a £150,000 overhaul and is still running in. The evidence of this was several hot bearings during the charter and in deference to these it has been decided to pair 47 up with Wimblebury for the gala weekend. However, this will give the spectacle of two NCB blue saddle tanks slogging up Foxfield Bank out of Foxfield Colliery during the weekend.
There will also be a line freight on both days which will leave Caverswall Road station in the light engine slot of 9am and return after the last passenger train has returned at 17.30. Event guides and timetables will be available to buy on the weekend on purchase of a day rover ticket. For the members the gala starts on Friday with trains to make up, locos to prepare and warm through, displays to arrange and much much more, all culminating in a beer in the One Legged Shunter on Friday evening and much banter with our friends from other railways. Saturday always dawns too early following this for some strange reason!
See you there.
