A few updates from progress in the workshops (and outdoors too).
Avonside 1563 has had all four springs and their spring hangers refurbished ready to refit on the loco and new steel work fitted to the fireman's side of the cab. The front tubeplate has been removed from the boiler to allow a more thorough inspection prior to assesment of the repairs required.
Dubsey, the crane tank, has moved under it's owner's power, being pinch barred backwards and forwards for half a wheel revolution to settle the axle boxes into place. The boiler is nearly ready for tubing and the right hand cylinder which was found to have a crack in it has gone away to be repaired.
Bellerophon is awaiting machining and fitting of new bushes to the connecting rod little ends prior to refitting the con rods and a trial steaming.
Whiston's overhaul continues with reassembly of the motion, the boiler being ready for the new tubes to be fitted.
The loco line up for the start of the 2009 season is Wimblebury, Meaford No.2, Florence No.2 and Beyer Peacock 1827
Wolstanton No.3 has recently been started and run under her own power following an extensive rebuild of the Gardner engine. The fitting of vacuum brakes for passenger use is being considered at the moment following the departure of Rachael to a new home.
Elsewhere two 'Economic' point locks have been refurbished ready for installation at Foxfield Colliery as part of the continuing work to prepare Foxfield Bank for the re-introduction of passenger services this year. Keep watching for further announcements regarding the re-opening date.
